New pub has a wizard theme

A NEW pub has been named in honour of a well-known Northumberland magician.

National chain JD Wetherspoon has opened The Electrical Wizard in New Sector, Morpeth, once a pounds 785,000 refurbishment of the former Szoda Bar premises.

The pub is named when Dr Walford Bodie, identified as The Electrical Wizard of the North, who brought his shocking magic tricks to the venue in its previous days as the Coliseum cinema.

There is a huge chandelier to recreate the grandeur of the outdated theatre.

And photographs and critical information boards about the building's history have been set up alongside an electrical-themed sculpture.

The venue will be open from 8am to midnight, Sunday to Thursday, and from 8am to 2am on Fridays and Saturdays.

Food will be served in the course of the day. The pub was formally opened by Morpeth Mayor Ken Brown on Tuesday.
